Thanked: 14I too enjoy the lathering side of shaving. I mostly face lather from soaps, using swirling followed by painting finishing strokes. I definitely prefer soaps to creams because I enjoy partially reloading the brush for each pass or touchup. I probably use more soap than needed but I enjoy the lathering. My usual brushes are small to mid size.
SRD Scuttle Problem:
My lathering routine does have a problem. I watched many of Lynn's videos in which he uses the SRD scuttle to keep his brush warm. I got an SRD scuttle, thinking that it wouldn't work because of my multiple brush reloads. It The scuttle partially works for me but it could be much better. It seems to work best when the brush rests in the scuttle between passes with no reloads. Maybe I should also use hotter water.
Hint: Maybe Lynn should do a video on using the scuttle?

"other" because there's no "inconsistent" option. Last shave was the best as lather gets. Next shave???. I get wound up on selecting/stropping a razor and often don't do my soap justice with the badger. I figger in a few more years, i'll get a solid hang of it.

I get a tiny bit of soap on the brush after briefly wetting it and put a very thin layer on my face. This takes 20 seconds on a slow day.

I follow Lynn's hot towel routine. Hot towel, prepare lather soap or cream of the day, then whisk and paint and maybe even slap it on depending on the brush. Hot towel again then repeat.

I just slap it on.
Face lather, A good hard scrub to build it, then slap it all over... a plasterer.

Thanked: 485If I'm applying lather I paint, that is, if I've made up the lather in the bowl I paint it on my face. Generally this will be the method if I'm using a cream. However, if I'm face lathering (which I do with a soap) I basically swirl...
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

I lather straight on my face. 2nd pass (atg) gets a soupier lather from a brush dip in the sink.

Thanked: 1184I use the whole tool box of strokes. Swirls loading the brush to build it up and again to build face lather. Sweeps to get it near detail areas without covering up the details. Paint to make an even thickness all over. I pinstripe the outside lines like the collar bottom and down the neck from the ears and try to get them even and straight for some dumb reason. I could cut my shave time in half if I just went for the basic slap it on approach but then I wouldn't have the lather I want or the fun .
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
