    Default Newbie and LOVING it!!

Started with a Ralf Aust 5/8" Black Straight that Lynn Abrams helped me out with. Just bought a new 6/8 Solingen. Took me about a month to master, but the shaves are amazing. Can't believe I waited this long to make the jump. Being active duty military I have to shave daily - straight razors took what was once a chore and made it entertaining. I've been lurking/reading posts here for a while now, thanks for all the advice.

Welcome to SRP and thanks for your service.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

'Second the welcome. 'Recently saw my first Aust, and can only agree - a very impressive piece of work - and reasonably priced. I loved the beefy shank & spine. I LOVE a weighty blade - whether or not the grind is heavy. 'Hope you love your time here. 'Good to have you.

Welcome. If it's good now, just wait, as it only gets better as your knowledge and skill level develops.

Next step is to start going to swap meets, flea markets, yard sales and antique stores looking for shaving gear. After that it is a slippery slide into economic depression and a wicked addiction to shaving creams

Guitstik - yea, I've already been checking out ebay for vintage razors. I need to get knowledgeable about honing so that I can attempt to restore an older razor.

I would suggest staying away from eBay for now until you learn what to look for in a vintage razor. There is a lot to be said about being able to physically handle it and do a close inspection before buying. Even knowing what I do about razors I still get burned from time to time on eBay and bet other old hands can say the same. Besides, I don't need anymore competition on there at the moment
