Default Where are all the Straights?

A couple days ago, I realized I haven't used a Straight Razor in a long time. It's almost been a year! I've been using my DE's when I had to shave. My girlfriend hates it when I have whiskers, so I told her I would shave everyday. So I dusted off my Naniwas SS and started to touch up some razors.

Because I've been using DE's all this time, no razor burn on my first straight razor shave. I did lose speed but after 3 shaves the "rust" is starting to fall off. Yesterday I touched up my Max Sprecher 1/4 hollow custom with a Naniwa 10k, 12k and some chromium oxide.

Best shave I've had in a long time! I can't believe I neglected that beautiful razor for so long.

So I'm back using Straights again and I was looking at my favorite vendors' sites for shaving stuff and realized they had only a few if any Straights Razors. What's been happening in the past year? Has production slowed down? Has Straight Razors become more popular?

It would seem to be the case. Straight razors appear to be flying off the vendors' shelves and custom razors?? I'm waiting for one which will not even be up for discussion until probably late next Spring. Word is the major companies who make "production razors" (like Dovo, Boker, etc.) are severely backlogged and have been for some time.

I can't believe you had a Maxterpiece and you were ignoring it. That could put a dent in your karma. : )

Seriously, as was said above the straight razor manufacturers have heavy backlogs. SRP alone with all the new members arriving daily is probably responsible for a lot of the existing backorders from the manufacturers. I think it is a good thing especially if the customer base
demands that quality standards remain high.

In any event welcome back to straight shaving.

As I often say, if you want a great new razor and want to be able to order one today, check out Revisor. Not only do I feel they are some of the best new razors but they are in plentiful stock with many different options. And they are priced right too.
