Something I learned the hard way -
It is not a good idea to exfoliate you face vigorously the morning prior to your evening shave. Yep, not going to do that again if I can manage to remember.

I use Aveeno face scrub almost every night before shaving in the morning.

My wife gave me this little scrubber and some face cleanser. I guess my skin is more sensitive than hers is or I got over zealous and scrubbed my face almost raw. Though i did not notice anything my wife did mention that the underside of my chin looked a bit irritated.
I know now to be gentler or to forgo the whole thing , at least with that pad anyway.
I don't usually use anything other than a washcloth to clean my face. I think I just took it a bit too far.

If you have easily irritated skin, as I do, try using "Cetaphil" cleanser. It is found at Wal-Mart, CVS etc. It is so mild that even if you don't rinse it all off, it will not dry your skin, and almost act as a lotion. As far as exfoliating, I do that just a couple of times a week, at night so my skin can "calm down" as I sleep.

I was very un/fortunate as a younger lad to have terrible acne for which I was prescribed Roaccutane (isotretinoin) which is a very, very, very high over dose of vitamin A. As such it cured my acne problems (with a whole host of other vicious side effects; some that still linger 13 years later) but I have not had skin problems since. The occasional pimple here and there and maybe the odd black head but honestly, I do not need to take care of my face like others would.
I feel for you though, there was a time in my life when washing my face with a rasp could not have fixed my skin.

Well, I found out what the culprit was just now. My son has a medicated shampoo (Nizoral) that he left in our bathroom (even though they aren't supposed to be in our room) when he had to use our shower because his sister was in the other. My wife didn't look at the label as it was the same colour as her facial cleanser and just handed it to me. I , without looking , used it on my face with the little scrubber pad.
Now I feel like quite the dolt.
So new lesson ...... Do not exfoliate your skin with dandruff shampoo.

Uncle Jethro used to rescue animals and he kept them on the Ranch. He has this ornery African Cape Buffalo named mercury he got from some zoo that was closing down and in case you didn't know it those critters have tongues like sandpaper. He used to have mercury lick his face before shaving. However as he found out only a couple licks cause more starts to take your skin off.
Don't even ask me what happened to old mercury. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

LOL - sounds like when 20 odd years ago my wife brought home a new, "Loofah" loaf, supposed to scrub you clean and exfoliate as well. I hopped into the shower and started scrubbing and man did it feel good, so really had a good scrub, made sure I hit every part, nook and cranny I could find.
Spent the next week beat red on every part of my body and in extreme discomfort...especially certain areas where I guess one shouldn't, "Loofah"!
