    Default Proof that you spend too much time thinking about straight razor shaving?

    Today I was changing the oil on my wife's truck and got oil on my face. My first thought was, "wow, that might provide a very smooth shave!".

    I have found myself looking at people with different face types to me and wondering where the challenging bits to shave would be.

    I like shaving when i'm shaving. Other than that I try to put it to the back of my mind.

    @edhewitt - god, so true! When I'm watching movies and people have beards, I'm constantly thinking about the best angles for shaving.

    Remember the TV series "Rome"?

    In a nutshell, Julius Cesar shaved - which was not that common then - and he apparently shaved with olive oil.

    As a consequence, I didn't raid my wife's kitchen cabinet, but I tried various massage oils.
    Well, it can be done, but it was not something that I did pursue for long.

    A wandering (wet-shaver's) mind is a dangerous thing....

    BTW:
    If 5W-40 gives you better mileage, will 5W-40 gives you better shaves too as "YMMV"???

    My cousin Cletus beat you to it long ago. Used motor oil has just the right mix of ingredients to give you the best shave possible-according to him.

    I was at a level crossing a few weeks ago, while waiting for the train to pass it occurred to me that the gate looked just like the profile drawing of a hollow ground blade. I took a pic with the intention of posting a new thread "things that look like a razor" but decided it might appear I'm insane.........here is the pic

    What's that new cologne that you are wearing? Vavoline.
    I think I'd worry a bit about cancer using used motor oil though. There are lot of organic nasties in that stuff.

    @beluga
    The early romans actually did shave as a way of distinguishing themselves from the greeks.

    Not to mention the fact that southern Italy in the summer time with a beard would just be unbearable (IMO).
