    Default Sideburn control

After years of shaving, I've finally decided on a good way to keep my sideburns at a consistent length. It's hard for many of us because our ears aren't level, and/or our eyes aren't level... it's hard to choose a good landmark so the 'burns look OK. Of course, I could resort to mutton chops, but they're wayy to fashionable for me.

So, one day last week I was watching the blade as I fumbled around for a good sideburn start point, and noticed that the edge lined itself out with the line I could imagine extending from my eyebrow toward my ear. And there it is, my landmark. Now, rather than wondering whether the sideburn has crept down (as they always do, as if by gravity), I just align the blade along that extrapolated line and have at it.

Maybe this is so simple it didn't warrant posting. Yeah, much of my life is like that. But here it is anyway... hope it helps someone.

I shaved my eyebrows off in the quest for a BBS shave, so I have to use something else.

    Excellent idea!

Back when I had sideburns I had a string line set up across the bathroom mirror. But, you know, your way is good too....

I tried the string on the mirror thing, but my wife kept putting her lipstick on in straight lines and things were getting a little weird around here so I took it down.

this is a little complicated, but I tied a string around my head and face at the right height, leveled my head and then the string with my iPhone, then had my wife trace it with a permanent sharpie. Looks a little odd, but it works.

Sounds like tattoos would work, too.

Wouldn't it be easier to just get a brown Sharpie and color the sideburns in the way you want them? While you're at it, you could add a little hair on the top of your head if you're getting light up there.

Well, a silver sharpie maybe! And you know, I've got one... Better than a tattoo, probably, since the color's a moving target.
