    Gentlemen,

The Feather is a straight razor with replaceable blades, an impressive tool that not only is well made, but it also gives superb shaves. Putting it in the same category as the flimsy so-called shavettes is an insult to craftsmanship.

@Obie... pretty much sums up my opinion. Calling the feather a "shavette" really isn't fair. It's a world beyond my Parker shavette. But as much as I like the feather, the shaves with my real straights are better. It's also more fun to shave with a true straight vs the feather.

I definitely love my Japanese traditional folding straight razors and wouldn't give them up for anything. Honing on Jnats (Narutaki Asagi & Ai-iwatani), and stropping on my Kanayama #80000 is a decadent and rewarding, zen-like experience. The shaves are great, uber-close, and buttery smooth to be sure!

That being said, the Feather/Kai holder and replaceable blade system is indeed pretty damn amazing in its own right! For me nothing shaves closer more effortlessly than the Feather Artist Club DX loaded with Feather Super Blades. It's almost like lightly squeegeeing the lather off your face, pretty mind blowing, IMHO!

No doubt there are certainly different attributes associated with traditional straights vs the Feather/Kai system. All in all though, I love them both! Each has their time and place! While YMMV, I most definitely can't call one superior to the other!
