Kamisori shaving - what took me so long?
Wow is all that I can say. The shave is as close and smooth as any that I've ever had. I usually rotate between three razors during the week but this Kami has pushed those aside for a solid week.
You owe it to yourself to try one.

Thanked: 498I'm happy for your new found love with the Kami kelbro. I recently tried a buddies Kami was looking forward to the new experience, but sadly I didnt care for the Kamisori like most do. I guess I'm stuck in my ways with western style straights. Just couldn't get comfortable with it.
Enjoy you new acquisition.

IMHO, the kamisori is a more effective basic design than the Western straight.
The asymmetric grind allows for a lower edge angle and a thinner edge. This (in a best case scenario) should translate into a sharper edge.
Also, hammer forging steel by a blacksmith compacts the crystal structure of the steel - which knifemakers believe is superior to a factory stamped and ground blade.
If you love to shave, it is definitely worth trying a kamisori. My father was an engineer. He used to tell me that sharpening a straight razor is like trying to build a ladder to the moon out of a roll of aluminum foil.

I added a few used ones to my assemblage / rotation. They shave me well. That goes for the one piece Kamisori and the no-hone replaceable blade ones. They were cheap to buy recently. I had wanted to try them for quite a while.

Thanked: 228I recently purchased two off ebay. I have honed them but so far have not gotten up the nerve to try them yet! I will eventually though.

Forgot to mention, it's a Lefty Kami. Not an overabundance of those out there. Part of why it took me a while to adopt a '-handed' razor. Every time I would look, they would be sold out and say, 'maybe we will make some more later this year.'
