Default First shave and first cut.

I just got my ralf aust 6/8 and started my first passes doing more than I should have chin, mustache area, etc. But as I finished up on my second pass I went up to fast with the blade and got myself on the upper portion of my right cheek. It was a small cut but it isn't going to stop me from following my dream of being a straight razor shaver.

    First shave, first dozen cuts.
Its no accident I'm called Pinklather.
    It gets ALOT better.

If the Aust is your only razor, consider a lower cost, but sound backup from the classifieds. New guys are HARD on edges. Its often just part of the learning. The backup blade is so you can keep shaving while the other is out being honed. My early stropping dulled my blades. I was somewhat legendary for what not to do in stropping. Its not worth putting up w/ dull edges. There are vendors that can help & other members that'll hone for the practice.

You'll get to the joy, and it won't be long.

Clean it good and use neosporin, just like Mom would say. No macho staple-gun repairs. You'll need a well-kept face to show off all the smooth shaves that are coming!

I decided to go slow, so just did my cheeks the first couple of shaves, then added non-dominant hand, and I've added the neck the last two shaves. Still no nicks or cuts... Knock on wood!

I haven't done the chin or around the mouth, yet. Then again, I sport a goatee.

Did it now for going on 1 1/2 years....never a cut....a nicked mole or zit now or then, but never a cut....

Now 2 in 7 days. One a "chunk" and one a "paper cut", but MAN does styptic sting

Slow down, and for the sake of your face don't get overconfident like some idiots do (me).
    Just call me Harold

While traveling through germany, my mate decided that he was going to get himself a straight, which he did and a nice strop to (both muhle). i was growing a filthy beard in my holidays and i was the one that had to be the guinea pig in the first shave. i was so proud that he cut himself three times (a beauty across his top lip) and my self only two (chin). didn't stop either of us he still uses the same razor and i started collecting

(it also helps not to be a couple of beers down when you start shaving, we learnt that lesson pretty quick)
