Thanked: 3Well last Tuesday I went for my second straight razor shave. It didn't go as well as the first time either. I started off with Barbasol, as before,......but this was an OLD out of production can of Barbasol with a pepperminty or menthol effect.
So thinking from that first great shave that I had it all together I just began to shave as before, making sure to keep the 30 or so degree angle and such.
But there were problems. The shaving cream became tacky and sticky like. Plus the blade still hasn't been honed and stropped.
The shave wasn't nearly as sharp or easy as it was the first shave. I still powered and confidenced my way through the shave. But then, in a rubbery type of sensation, the blade stuck under my right jaw, cutting me.
And that is when I realized that I was in a fight.
The cut wasn't bad at all though..... but it still was a cut. Then suddenly another blade sticking cut on my left cheek .....and then another on my chin. Surprisingly, none of these cuts caused any significant bleeding and were remedied in seconds. Now a noticeable sting was felt in the shower afterward. But, to be honest, the worst cuts I ever got, that actually bled worth mentioning, were with regular disposable blades.
But I assume that the cuts can be much worse with straight razors overall. So I guess I was fortunate. I still haven't watched the World of Straight Razor Shaving DVD either. But now I know I have a lot to learn. And a some more accessories to buy and get skilled with.
Still my face feels great and the shave did not lose its overall therapeutic effect, regardless of the cuts. It only gets better from here.

Thanked: 3Barbasol is all I have right now. But I plan on getting that stuff that Lynn Abrams was using on the one video that was posted on this site. I forget what it was called, but I know that his online store sells it. I remember him displaying how only a small bit worked up a really good lather.
If you can find out the name of it let me know. I don't have time to look it up now. If I do find out the name before anyone else does, I will post it here.
