Thread: Anyone tried Edv. Neiström No.57 ?

I bought an unused Edv. Neiström No. 57 pretty cheap and believe it or not it was unused (exactly like the on here rakkniv EDV.NEISTRÖM nr.57 nyskick på Tradera.com - Rakning - )
I don't have any pictures yet but its exactly like the one in the above link.

This was also my first successfull attempt at honing a razor, and I wipped out the norton 4k/8k and the naniwa 12k did a couple of circles first until I was satisfied with the bevel and then I did the pyramid, finished on the 12k and gave it a few laps on crox before stropping.

Jesus christ what a shave. I have two other razors, one sheffield made and one dovo bismarck but this was something different. They are very cheap to get a hold off, i got mine for 10$.

Try one out if you get a hold of one, this one was amazing! Closest and most comfortable shave I have ever had.

Swedish steel is hard to beat no doubt.

Swedish steel is even more uniform than German steel. Given the choice between a Neiström and a Heljestrand, I'd pick the Neiström. Bit like Camel Rider and Puma. Or, well, anything #14 out of Solingen and the rebranded export models from Spain.

I have a heljestrand as well but it's nothing compared to the neiström yet the heljestrand made a better name for himself

Heljestrand razors are like vintage Dovo or Puma razors. Mass produced. Solid performance, too. But nothing to write home about. There are several far more interesting Swedish makers to be had, and for a fraction of the price. SSA comes to mind, for example.

I've ran into several of those models and they are dang solid pieces. One even stayed in my personal collection for a long stretch before I massively cut down.

As said, Swedish steel is very hard to beat.

I've got to respectfully disagree with you guys there, I've never had a razor that was better than my Heljestrands, as good as them? sure maybe but not better.

I don't have any American or French razors that I've tried and my collection is not the biggest out there but I've got several other Swedes, Sheffields and now even a couple Japanese ones and a new(ish) production German so I think that's enough razors to base my judgement on.

But if you guys don't like Heljestrands then that's not a problem for me, the demand for them is already too high.
