When a dermatologist cuts off a mole, he sends it to a laboratory to determine if it is benign or cancerous. If it's found to be cancerous treatment is necessary, and can save your life. If you cut it off, you will never know whether it was benign or cancerous, unless of course, you later find that it was cancer and has spread. By then a cure may be difficult or impossible. So NEVER cut off a mole yourself.
