Shave Ready W&B
Traded for a W&B a few months ago, it has MediumHollow Ground on the blade. Had it honed by a respected member. Shaved with it today. It was smooth as butter. I almost stopped after first pass, it was that good. Went a head and made second pass and cleaned up around my muzzle.
I have been using German made razors since I started shaving with a straight. This was truly a treat. Looking forward to many more sweet shaves with this one.
I have a large W&B wedge that I used twice and just couldn't get comfortable with, maybe razors above a 6/8 are just not my thing. Thanks for all the help this forum and the people I have meet have given.

That is nice to hear, that the W&B was so pleasing to you. Hang on to the big wedge. I prefer a 6/8 too most of the time, but every now and again I'll pull out one of the 'big guns' and remember that they are good too, but different. You might even find that over time you get to like the bigger blades as much as the smaller cousins. That has been my experience anyway.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 3This is an interesting discussion for me right now. I recently came by a W&B 15/16'ish wedge myself. I have been using a German wedge (around a 5/8) and a Geneva hollow. The Geneva was a close shaver but was never very comfortable. I've recently gotten into honing as well as a decent strop. I touched up the Geneva on a shapton 16k and now that I'm doing a better job of stropping the Geneva hollow is far more comfortable, however the W&B is still a more pleasant shave. The Geneva is as close as I can get with any DE blade though.
I always believed a hollow would inherently give a closer shave because of the flexibility (or rather the stiffness of the wedge preventing it from following as closely) but I'm starting to think that a very good strop on either will result in a close shave. Does anyone have thoughts on this?
I do find the extra blade to be nice. It makes it easy to keep a good angle with, although it can be a little more challenging in certain areas. I am on the lookout for a hollow W&B for a more apples-apples comparison. All in the name of science, of course!

Thanked: 580I'm with Jimmy, hang on to the wedge. A lot of the members swear by them, until it comes to honing, then they swear at them...
