Glen as always is right about 'knowing yer face'! It makes a huge difference in getting a CCC shave.

Back in the day when I'd pop for a straight razor shave along with a hair cut (it was $5 extra) my barber who had his license issued after he got out of Barbers School in 1945 would use the machine dispensed lather rubbed in with his fingers then the hot towel then re lather then strop his razor and give me a one pass shave.

Well just like I'd seen all of the old boys do I'd rub my face from North to South never thinking about East to West let alone South to North.

Was it BBS? Don't know. Was it CCC Yes! Today I don't believe in the BBS shave I believe in and strive for the Clean Close and Comfortable Shave.

I have some hand shake that tends to go away at night so I shave at night, a two pass shave will last for about 24 hours and would be presentable to go to dinner right after work. Hell I work with a guy who comes to work with more stubble at the beginning of his shift than I do when I leave/electric razor shaver

With that said, after 24 hours my straight razor shave breaks down fairly quickly.
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

I'd definitely agree that a properly honed razor will cut the beard hairs in one pass. But I guess you need to add that it needs to be accompanied by proper shaving technique - stretching, angle etc.

You get this issue with people new to straight razors all the time - how do you tell whether it's the edge or the technique? A lack of one can mimic the symptoms of the other, so you'll often read new users saying their edge is poor when it is not. You'll also sometimes read some poor bugger struggling with technique when in fact it's a poor edge that's the culprit.

The best bet, at least initially, is to remove any ambiguity by ensuring your razor is pro-honed.
