Thanked: 433Maybe try hair conditioner and let it sit for a bit, then do your normal prep. That will soften the hair quite a bit

Thanked: 1I'm near canton Ohio. And I'm pry in the 200 shave area with straights and another year of shavette before that so I am really comfortable with the tool. And I get great shaves with my shavette. perhaps I'm dulling my razor during the shave somehow that wouldn't affect a shavette. I did just join the site but I've been a browser for a long time now.

Does the edge of your razor easily pop (cut) arm or leg hair at the tree top level?

Thanked: 3795I am concerned that you have shaved with a shavette for quite a while. That reduces the likelihood of a shaving technique issue.
I'd love to look at your razors under a microscope to determine the condition of your edges.
An investment in time with a mentor sounds like your best option.
Please don't give up! This will get sorted out.

Thanked: 1I would be happy to ship a razor to anyone who knows what they're doing. I would be more a comfort for someone to say I'm doing something wrong because my razor is perfect. I just dont know that for myself. They all do cut arm hair easy.

I would agree with trying to find some local help. There is obviously an issue but diagnosing it would be easier in person.

Hopefully someone from Ohio will chime in and offer to help you. When you say your razor easily cuts arm hair. Do you mean at the base of the hair next to your skin or mid-length of the hair shaft. This is important because it determines if your razor has a "real shave ready edge".

Unfortunately, watching stropping videos does not a good stropper make. It gives you the basic principles. Only practice stropping results in good stropping. You mention little to nothing about your stripping in your posts.
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

The good news is that once this problem is figured out you will be able to get a great shave with a straight.
If you can achieve a good shave with a shavette you should be able to achieve a great shave with a straight.
Just need to figure out the weak link,... which after reading all posts I would hazard to guess is stropping.S.L.A.M.,.......SHAVE LIKE A MAN!!!

Thanked: 1It almost does sound like it's gotta be stropping right? I mean good shaves shavette- bad shaves with straights, has to be it right? Unless razor angle has to be perfect with straights and not so much with shavette? Any thoughts?
