queston about angle
So since I have started shaving with a straight i have been placing my razor on my cheak tilting it until i just feel the edge of the blade. and then trying to keep two spine withs etc.but my last two shaves i have been keeping more of an angle. Like 40-45 degree angle and have been getting close as heck shaves. bbs shaves I was wondering if this is because I have a cheap razor or is it because my razor is needing sharpened or do some razors just need more angle. I did get a bit of razor burn tonight but im thinking i had to much of an angle tonight because if 40 degrees worked good 50 degrees should work even better right lol . I guess not.... but is this angle normal for soe razors, or do i need to send it off?

I have read posts from members who use high angles for certain passes, it isn't uncommon from what I have seen.
As long as you aren't getting discomfort I don't think it matters, though I have read that higher angles degrade an edge quicker.
to be honest I don't really k ow the angles that I use anymore, i do know that my ATG pass is much shallower than my WTG pass.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 11Ed's advise is good. That said, I would suggest sending it off (if you have to ask...)

Thanked: 458I use higher angle down grain than against the grain, and I think probably a lot of people will. With any pass, the same condition applies - if you have too apply pressure to the razor, you're asking for razor burn. If you feel pulling while you do it, you're asking for razor burn.
There are parts of my face where I don't go ATG because of razorburn, but an angle of about 40 degrees and a good stretch gives me a far better shave than I have gotten without going ATG with anything else. It's actually better than I get out of gillette DEs ATG unless I go digging with those, too, and we know how that ends - face on fire.
Do what's comfortable, quick, and provides results. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, you'll know pretty quickly.

Thanked: 3215What does the edge look like?
Sounds a little steep, you may have rolled the edge. Look at the edge straight down with magnification.
Not uncommon for new stroppers. If you were doing 40 degrees and it was comfortable, that would be different.
You can get many inexpensive razors to shave, but they will not hold an edge, they crumble, which is why they are not recommended.
