Thanked: 0Best shave of my life today
I've been shaving with a straight razor for about a year and a half, and the experience has always been good, but never great. Through the gradual refinement of shave angle, lather techniques etc (information from this forum I might add), things have gotten better but there was always something missing. Today I got my Dovo back, with a fresh hone, and a tin of Castle Forbes. I guess a sharp blade and a great cream was what was missing, because the experience was amazing. I understand now why people say that a straight shave is the most comfortable shave. Just wanted to share, and add a thank you to all on this forum for the advice and recommendations over the past while!

Thanked: 31Congrats! You reminded me of when my shaves got better in way seemed like a big leap. I think that as we learn to shave; learning technique, learning stropping, learning lathering, learning beard prep; that our razors tend to suffer a little in keenness. And when we get that keenness back, we find out that we have progressed much further than we realized. Thanks for the memory trip! Have fun!

Welcome to the forum, and congrats!. I think a sharp blade is the answer to a lot of problems with a straight. But I also think gradual refinement of angle and technique, as well as learning through trial and error how to wield the razor efficiently and find ways to shave from different directions(easier with a DE than a straight) makes a huge difference as well. It did for me.

Thanked: 12Welcome aboard. Shaving with a Straight Razor has a vey long learning curve. I have a friend that has been shaving with a /straight Razor for as long as I have known him. He is in his late eighties. I think he is going to be 90yrs old in the month, of June his Birthday is the day before my Birthday, or he will be 91 yrs. old. Any way, he said that as long as you take your time you should never get "Nicks or Weepers".
