BBS shave whit my straights
After about 2 months of quality straight shaving i can say now that i reach the BBS shave whit my straights. It seem that for me anyway that straight shaving is a routine, not that i stoped the learning process but it's getting better every day. I've got 3 straights and they gave me about the same results each of them and BBS shave whit no irritation or razor burn just incredible shaves. My face also feel incredebly good after a straight shave just a great post shave feeling. Gino

That's great!
I have found this to be true with shaving in general, but straights in particular; learning and refining is a continuous process. I'm still learning little things, and constantly refining technique. If that ever stops, that's when I'll start worrying.Mike

I agree. Post shave with my straights I could easily walk away from the sink without doing a thing. Zero irritation or razor burn, and close, smooth shave.

By the way Mike i think my addiction as started i have 4 straights and 2 more are comming by the mail. I guest in few months i might have to learned to honned those blades lol. There all vintage razor 3 are from whipped dog 1 given to me by Zayid a generous member of this forum and the 2 others from the Stalion Esposito(Anthony) are new Gold Dollar razors. I enjoy that type of shaving so much it's indescritible, i'm so glad that i learned straight shaving. Gino

I know the feeling. I can't pass by an old straight, wherever I am. If I can afford it and it has the possibility for me to restore it to working order, I cannot pass it up.

Thanked: 96The journey to perfection can be hard and long, but with straight shaving enjoyable. I know a 4th generation barber who said the person who coined the BBS should sit on an open razor. Barbers will say a smooth or close shave. He said when you keep trying to shave BBS you will damage the skin. I saw one of Lynn's beginner shave videos and he said close and smooth with 2 passes. If you watch the barber shaving videos, they get close shaves by stretching the skin and knowing the direction the hair grows on the face. You don't see them doing 3 passes. I do 2 passes, one with the grain and one diagonally against the grain. If the blade is honed correctly, that will give you a very smooth shave. If I have a date with a female movie star I will do 3 passes.

I will sometimes do a two pass, but mostly two and touch up to pick up anything I think I mght have missed. But I don't even try for BBS. I spent the first 30-35 years of my life with a one pass shave, and that got me through just fine. I never knew anything about multiple passes until I started this ride.
I think 3/4 of the razor burn and skin problems people have in this "hobby" would disappear in a couple of days if they put that idea out of their minds. I also think chasing BBS is the cause of a lot of frustration and aggravation, as well as dissatisfaction with current gear, etc.
Shaving is supposed to be fun for me. When it turns to stress and aggravation, I'll go back to my three and four day beards. MHO.Mike

To be honnest i do 3 pass shave and i have no irritation and i'm not chassing BBS shave it's just that i reach it whitout trying it. There's a pass that i tried and it gave me big Time irritation and razor burn it's the blade upside down on both of my cheeks, my chin and mustach area. Frankly i don't need that pass to get a good shave so i don't do it anymore. But like i said the more i shave the more i learn the more i learn the better shave i get. Gino

Thanked: 96The hardest part of straight razor shaving for me is the way I hold the razor in certain hard to shave places. My neck under my ears give me a lot of problems because of the contour of my neck. Across the grain shaving can also be a problem getting the right grip on the razor to be sure the angle of the blade is correct. I found the 6/8 easier to hold then the 5/8. With practice I am sure I will find the right touch.
