Thanked: 56Honing Success!
Just honed my first eBay purchase, started on 4k, moved to 8k, then 12k. Stropped on 0.5 micron diamond on felt, then stropped on plain felt then leather. Got as easy a shave as the Dovo I bought from SRD, no pulling or tugging, smooth shave with no burn.
I suppose it is possible that it was already shave ready (not advertised as such, though), but if that was the case, then my honing didn't muck up the edge, either. I'd still call that success.

Thanked: 23There is nothing like the first time you get a good shave with a self-honed razor. Congrats!

Nothing better than putting on a very fine edge on your own razor and then getting a great shave with it. Just how many people can do that.
Congrats.

That's awesome and Congrats Oops sorry I meant Moonshae !!
I picked up a couple nice but inexpensive straights on eBay just learn how to hone them before I move up to my Bökers. I've honed some of my knives before but also know it's not entirely the same. It'll still be a while before I try' I need study up on hones, grits, types, and brands any pics ?Last edited by DadsoldBoker; 07-28-2015 at 03:00 AM.

Thanked: 56No pics, the razor itself is pretty ugly. The blade is in decent shape but the scales have some green corrosion around the pins and the decorative caps are tarnished. I have a mask coming soon, so I'll try to clean everything up once I can safely sand.

Thanked: 5Congrats!
Can I ask you how long your process took and how much time spent on setting the bevel using the 4k stone? Just wondered since you didn't use a 600 or 1k like alot of folks use!
Thx.
