No way that was going to happen to me.
It's been a really long time since I posted in the forums. I have been using either a shavette or a straight exclusively for about 5 months now. Once I got past the rough beginning, it was all smooth sailing. Haven't had so much as a weeper in about 4 months. Just real nice smooth shaves. Each seemingly better than the last.
I was in the middle of a spirited debate on a dear subject with some people I didn't even know on Facebook when I decided to shower and shave between posts. I hurried my shower and got the lather just right. and started my shave. I shave a little different than most as I start under my nose and then my upper and lower lips. The chin is next followed by neck then my checks are last.
I only had both check to do to complete my first pass. I was concentrating on my next rebuttal for the debate when no pain was felt but the blade in a spot that it shouldn't be. It was my right check just in front of my earlobe. I immediately put my right hand over it because I could tell this one was going be a blood letting. I finished my left check with my left hand while applying pressure with my right hand to my right check.
The purpose of this post is to say "Yes it happens everyone." You get comfortable, or what I've referred to for over 20 years in people management as "Sloppy" and ego moves all other thought processes aside and says "It's all good. You are an expert."
Gonna take a shave day off tomorrow.
Have a good evening,

Hang in there. Always shave with nothing on your mind and nothing to do.
SR shaving is a single task item, taking 100% of your attention.
God, were holding, for a lack of better description, a surgical scalpel to your face.
And by all means, TAKE YOUR TIME.
But we all know this. I've got my scares as well. Live and learn.

Thanked: 4Haha! Exactly.
And I know what you mean, jsuiters. I had a streak like this when starting out last year, and shaved succesfully for several months. One day I was in a hurry to the bus and was just going to take a "quick shave" (as if there is any such thing with a straight...?) and ended up being 30 minutes late due to slicing up my ear lobe so badly that it just didn't want to stop bleed.

Over confidence is a dangerous thing! SWMBO often tries talking to me when I'm shaving. She then wonders why I ignore her! Each time I think she's got the message... until the next time.

Thanked: 1And I'd be willing to bet serious $$$ that NO surgeon has EVER been told to "Hurry UP!!"
As a true noob, just starting SR and using it as more of a "finishing tool"....I could not agree MORE....that...
There's NO SUCH THING and a SR "rush job"!!!!
At least....NOT without some consequences......!!
Close shaves should SOOTHE ya....NOT SCARE ya!!

It doesn't scare me at all. Just the opposite as a matter of fact. I was feeling like Superman when the kryptonite came up and said hello.
I really don't get into perfect shaves or anything like that. Crap, very rarely do I even use an aftershave. I make two WTG passes and that will get me through to the next shave.
I am just an "old school" type person. I was probably born 120 too late. I use all different types of tech, but enjoy doing things the old fashion way. Just my upbringing I guess.
I would take that bet and probably win. They are under pressure to get done quickly; the longer things are, the more chance for disaster.

Always remember that there are only two types of shavers. those that are nicked and those that are going to be nicked. It doesn't matter if it's a DE or Straight.
