Thanked: 9you see Red?
This is more of a question for the experienced users but newbies are more than welcome to share their thoughts!
I just shaved and got a couple of red spots. This used to happen when I was starting out but lately it's pretty rare - I don't even remember getting such results for a while. Drives me nuts when I get them though
So: alum highlights the red spots, CSF too - and they are gone in 20 or so minutes. Is this considered razor burn? Or burn has to stay for the whole day? What would you call it? - minor irritation?
Also - do the razor jedi get these occasionally or never ever? (I certainly don't consider myself one) I assume these are more newbie territory...
I like my shaves when I see zero red spots and alum doesn't highlight anything, so I keep my normal tan color. However, my face can get red even from just too hot water or a particular soap / cosmetic product...
Just wondering
Cheers

The red dots, are they blood or not?
If it's blood, you might have had little bumps that are now gone.
If it is not blood, it could be that your razor is getting slightly too dull.
I have had this if I shave ATG with a razor that is just a little too dull. This pulls at the hairs and causes tiny vessel bursts (It hink it is that, at least) near the hairs.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 9No Bruno - no dots. Say 1x1" or smaller patches. Duller razor can certainly explain this - more pressure, etc. - but this one wasn't really dull. Could be sharper but I actually get red-free shaves from much duller blades. And I don't want to call it burn because I thought burn stays longer

I get something like this. Its not razor burn. It doesnt hurt.
I notice thes come up when I haven't been shaving regularly. for instance, I shave every other day but if I go,say, four days or more without shaving these red spots will sometimes show up.
Now that I think about it mine usually hang around for two day in which time the skin dries and flakes and then it is gone but when it started they usually went away in about a half hour.
This only started with me within the last two years.

Thanked: 9This sounds exactly like what I just got.
I shave whenever I feel like it - sometimes I go more than a week w/o a shave. Actually - I enjoy shaving serious growth more than shaving every day I also have not noticed any relationship between these spots and days b/n shaves. I do think it may be from less than optimal angle, soap reaction, a bit more pressure... not sure
Thanks for sharing

Ivo,
I too occasionally get this. I'm almost positive (in my case) that it is a function of EITHER a razor in need of honing or too much pressure for the razor I'm using that day (e.g. a really sharp razor will produce this effect with just a tad too much pressure; a less sharp razor only if wielded more agressively, a dull (relatively) razor will do it regardless).
I would call it razor burn, just not a full blown case.
Personal experience...YMMV,
Ed

Thanked: 9Ed,
I also thought that pressure might be a cause! I like how you are brutally honest calling it burn (I was inclined to protect my ego calling it something else )
Thank you!

Thanked: 346It can definitely be caused by a sharp razor - these red spots are one of the calling cards of the mighty feather.

Perhaps you should change your handle to "Jupiter"...

I'll be here all week.
Nothing substantiative to add to the discussion, just in a smart@ss mood.
