Thanked: 3795Well, it really is just a matter of what you are used to; but it's really not that different. Torquing pressure does need to be reduced though when using a narrower blade.

I have and use 9/16, 5/8 and 6/8. If I had to choose one, it would be 6/8. But I enjoy the variety of shaving with all of them. For me the grind of the razor is more important than the size. I prefer full hollow grinds, but I have everything from near wedge, half hollow, frameback, etc, and shave with them all.
But some guys gravitate towards one particular size and grind, and that is where they stay.
Like everyone else pretty much mentioned, it's all about what you, yourself, prefer.Mike

Size is not important. At least that's what SWMBO keeps telling me!

I struggled at first with the 4/8 size, both with shaving and stropping. I am fine with them now, it just took a little practice. With that said, that size is not my favorite and I would not recommend it for a beginner! I prefer a 6/8 if I had to choose one size. Glad to hear that you got that filly going

I prefer the heft of a 6/8 but that's just me. I also use some 5/8s and like them too. Whatever works for you, time and experimentation will tell.

I like big choppers because you end up with a steeper angle when you set the bevel.

I have trouble stropping the smaller, lighter blades properly, but they do give excellent
feedback during the shave. An 8/8 blade is easier for me to strop, and the weight of it
does seem to really work well on a multi-day growth, but it's a little clumsy in the tight
spots.
That kinda narrows it down to 5/8-7/8 for me.Last edited by PaulKidd; 12-09-2015 at 07:14 AM. Reason: typo

Thanked: 96I was very happy with 6/8 after using a 4/8 & 5/8. I just got a Mastro Livi 7/8 with deer antler scales and the weight is really impressive. I think that is the major difference. I like the way the heavy razor stays on my face. No skipping. Another difference is the blade angle, flatter.
