Wicked razor burn for an unknown reason...
So I shaved today with one of my rotation razors, the SRP wedge. I used my normal brush, soap, and prep. However, I got the worst razor burn I have ever gotten! Any ideas on what could have happened?? I am totally at a lost here...

Thanked: 3lol...
need more info...
do you shave every day? what are the other types of razors in your rotation? how often do you use this razor? when was the last time it was honed? was it an excessively hot/cold/dry day? do you work in an environment that is not nice to your skin? was your technique off? lazy technique? do you often shave with a wedge? I dont own a wedge but it is my understanding that wedges are less forgiving...

I shave every other day usually, and my rotation has about 15 razors total that range from wedges to full hollows. I have 8 wedges in my rotation, so my skin should be used to them! lol
The razor probably has 10-15 shaves on it, it was smooth during the shave and gave no indication of the impending doom!
It has been dry here, I guess that could be part of it. My technique is always questionable but I don't know how to tell if it was especially bad today...
I am beginning to think it was a combination of the lack of humidity (vs normal for south Texas) and too much pressure from me.

Yes if the razor is sharpened to really cutting hairs (whiskers) then the best touch to use is a lite one, not scraping the face to get a shave.

Thanked: 60The total lack of feedback from wedges, esp heavy ones, tend to make me unconsciously increase the pressure sometimes. I have remember to dial it back a touch when I have not used one for a while.

If you normally dont get burned with that blade, maybe its simple chemistry? That is... maybe you were just a bit to dehydrated when you shaved, and that caused the burn?

Well this happens from time to time with wedges with me too especially if haven't been using em for a while. the are heavy the tend to sit heavy on the face if your not careful. Also in my experience they give a sort of confidence or shall I say a false sense of security. I find them to be comfortable so comfortable that when i use them I lose my touch and go aggressive with out really knowing. As others have said feedback is minimal what u feel isn't necessarily whats happening. So angles and pressure can be compromised and there you go a little razor burn where you weren't paying attention. Well that's my take on it anyway. It will pass.
Don't drink and shave!

In my case any time I get razor burn it is a result of too much pressure. Early on it was part of the learning curve. Later on it might happen because I was in a hurry, or shaving with a razor that needed a touch-up and I compensated with more pressure.
I try to plan my shaves so that I'm not pressed for time when I do them. For example I just got done shaving tonight, so I don't have to rush to do it before church in the morning. Relax, no pressure, if the razor isn't sharp enough touch it up or use a different one.
Then again, your situation might be none of the above.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Gave it another go with a wedge, and all went well! I guess the problems with my last shave were an anomaly
