    Default First Big Whoops!

I've been shaving with straight razors for a few years now. In the beginning I had some mishaps. When I bought my first square tip, I got clawed. Last night was the biggest mess up and it's all my fault. I had a great prep. Pre-shave oil was on. I had a great lather with my shaving soap. My Boker Silver Steel was ready to go. I don't know if I was in a hurry or if I was thinking about that video with the fast Russian shaving. I ended up slicing a dime sized chunk out of my right cheek, near my mouth. If i had been going slower, I might have gotten away with just an ugly line.

The moral of the story is, shave to your abilities and don't be careless. Straights are dangerous when you don't give it your full undivided attention. Now I have to put up with a 100 "What happened to you face?" for the next week. It would serve me right if I develop a scar there. I doubt I'll ever grow hair in that spot again.

Ouch! That sounds like a big chunk.

I had a nice reminder last week over my cheekbone. I was thinking something similar about undivided attention afterward.

Been using a straight for over 20 years. Six months ago razor caught and put a nice cut in cheekbone area. Left a nice scar. The point is no matter how long you have been using a straight you will still have an oops moment now and then.

Yeah my Braun electric will have to take over straight's duties while my face heals. I've got to be careful. I was talking and I guess the movement of talking caused it to split open.

One thing I've noticed from shaving with a straight is if you do cut yourself, no matter how small, your blade will catch on the cut when you try to shave too early. Give it time to heal properly before trying to shave that area again with a straight. Hope it heals up OK for you.............

Ugh! If I must. Now I'm a lousy photographer. Here's what I've got from last night. Now for scale purposes I'll tell you that I'm 6'4" and 240lbs. So while it might not look that bad, just know that I'm a large guy with a big head.
