    Default water only second pass

Today I remembered reading in my 1934 barber textbook that after a "once over" (1 pass shave) the second pass was preformed with water only. Well today I tried just that. One pass with lather and one with just water. Smooth sailing, no irritation, very very close. WTG/XTG .

    Who has done it?

Oh god, I'd be too afraid. I've officially come to the conclusion that my facial hair is more than 90% steel. Shaving with cream is the only way for me. I'm talking shave ready razors, from my own honing and pro honers, tug in certain areas. All the time, everytime. I watch videos where guys smoothly run a razor across their whole neck and face in one smooth motion, and that's simply not possible for me.

There are some soaps that leave my skin slick enough that this is an easy one for touch ups and other soap that would make this not desirable at all. For example I like L'Occtaine soap but it does not leave my skin slick enough to do a water only touch up, more the opposite actually. I have probably six soaps that make it very easy.

Not going to give this a shot...
My Skin doesn't like a second pass sometimes even when fully prepped so I can't even imagine what it would look like with a water pass!

Yeah I do a final Clear Water Touch Up, but not a full pass... It does get very close and very perfect though

I have been doing this method for a couple days now with success.

Not going to try a full pass but I like the idea of trying some touch up this way, at the very end of the shave.

I do my final touch up with water but would never do a whole pass with water. Why? I just built up all this wonderful, aromatic lather that is sitting in my warm scuttle just waiting to be applied with one of my favorite brushes. One of the reasons I love wet shaving are the brushes and soaps.

I don't rinse my face after a full shave, which leaves a bit of soap film on the skin. For a touch-up,
I just dip my fingers in the water and moisten the spot that needs a little more attention.

There's usually enough soap residue to lubricate the skin sufficient for a very light second pass,
    perhaps from the "other" direction.

This works well, as long as I don't "worry" the thing and cause skin irritation. A single, very light,
    second pass does the trick.

Follow that with a complete cold-water rinse, and we're good to go.

I don't get the point in not using cream on every pass. It may work with just water, but I don't want to do without the nice smell and slickness of freshly applied cream on every pass.

    But, do as you please.
