Best thing I've done to improve my SR shaves was stick to one blade 95% of the time. While I do tend to rotate through my DEs for head shaves still. I noticed the same experience as you. You tend to learn exactly how a certain SR works I believe. Now if I could get my brush an soap addictions under control it may help. Lol.

Thanked: 0I could not go a whole year with the same equipment, I do like variety. Using the same razor for 3 months was a big help for me when I was starting out and having issues getting a good shave. It made me realize the number of variables involved in using multiple straights.

Great read, I bought a F Engels Special to start but carelessly missed the part about it not being shave ready. I then thought to go the sure path with a Ralf Aust off SRD and since the Special hasn't come back from its honing I have just the 1, for about 2 months now. I had a scruffy chin for a while when all of a sudden something must have clicked because I shaved yesterday and just got it. The chin had no stubble regardless of which way I rubbed it. Admittedly the side I shaved with my off hand had a few little spots but I had to go to work, this was just 2 passes. Anyhow in relation to this post I just want to say I totally see how continuous use of the same blade can really enlighten little things or even big things as you continue with a limited amount of variables. Thanks for letting me rant.

I have advised many people to stick with the same set up for AT LEAST a week before changing one aspect of thier set up, but ever even thought about shooting for a full year. I tip my hat to you, job well done!
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
