Thread: Flat Razor on face

Lately I have rediscovered my old filarmonica 10 razor. It is a narrow blade 4/8 or even a bit less.

Unlike my regular 5/8 dovo I have using for a few years now, I found a neat trick I can do with te fili. Shaving with the blade flat on my face, there is suction from the lather and I glide the blade over the skin w/o raising the angle. In fact being the blade so narrow, with a good lather, I can run some light pressure on the spine and the suction will get the skin up to the edge for a close shave.

I can do this WTG and ATG, even in circular strokes and guillotine storks. All this is actually all the things I was told not to do while using a SR, but as is, today I had the best shave I had in years.

Does this makes sense to anyone?

My last pass is usually flat on the face buffing up the remaining stubble. Tc

When I'm doing South -> North strokes on my neck I'll lay the razor flat against my skin to get at the convex curve. I've tried it in other places, just doesn't work for me.

I like to sometimes shave with a mild DE razor using a bit of pressure. Same principle and I can get really close shaves like that.

I find with my 7/8 the flatter the better.

I have a Dubl Duck Satinwedge that is just under 5/8ths. When it suctions down, I get the best shaves from it. They last a long time and have no irritation. I haven't been able to do it with any of my hollow ground razors, or my bigger wedges. It doesn't work on the chin or middle of the neck, but will on the rest.

The smaller the width of the razor, the less angle is needed, to a point. I think that they (4/8) become a scalpel pretty fast?
Angle is angle, but the lightness and quickness of small blades is harder for me. I have been using some of late. Getting pretty good.
I think if you can shave with a 4/8, you can shave with anything. (shudder)
Nice observations! Need to try that. 4/8 razors scare me!
