You guys have given me an idea to pay for someone to have a straight shave over here so I can get it on video. I am pretty sure it will look and sound like they are being water boarded.

There are very few states that would allow it but I know a few though that do. We have discussed this in previous threads. The other problem would be insurance issues and then there is the matter of finding someone competent. Even a classic trained barber with such experience probably hasn't used a straight in 30 years.

In some cases if you provided the razor that may overcome some health codes. Maybe.

According to the girl that did my shave it is legal here in British Columbia for them to use a traditional straight razor, but nobody knows how to maintain them. They have to take a three day shaving course and do two complete shaves for their final exam, one of the tough parts on that was finding two people to bring in for your final. I was happy with the service and would like to get another in about a year, just to see how her skills are progressing, presuming she would still be working and in the same shop.

I got a straight razor finish from a barber in Tennessee. After the cut he used that instead of a finisher. That is part of why I got interested in it.

There is a local barber shop I might try. I've always been curious if the modern "professional" shaves are as good as what I can do at home.

When I lived and worked in NYC, I used to go to a barbershop with 3 Italian brothers who were 4th generation barbers. The shave and a haircut once a month was just heaven. Really miss it. How they could talk and shave always was a marvel to me. The hand movements when they were talking made me concerned the first couple of times but I never got nicked.

My wife got me a straight razor shave several years ago for my birthday, and it got me started in this hobby! It was with a shavette, but the man did a great job from prep to finish. It was some shop just outside of Houston.
