    Default My first 3 pass

Been shaving with a straight for about a month and finally got around to the 3 pass shave with my new RA 5/8. I always did a 3 pass when I was using my DE but find I run short on time with a straight so I finish with the DE after the first pass. Well today I was off of work and wasn't in a rush so I took my time and enjoyed myself.

This was by no means my closest shave but for sure a dfs. What a great shave it was though. I changed up my normal routine and used a pre shave oil, first time for that and kinda liked it. The alum told me I had little to no razor burn and no cuts. My face felt great all day. These are the shaves that keep a new guy like me coming back for more. Can't wait for my next shave. Thanks for listening to me ramble[emoji1]

Nice. I too did my first three pass a few days ago. It took a lot of machinations trying to find comfortable razor holding positions for the ATG pass and I still have a lot of work to do in that regard. last evening I did my second three pass and this time I used an old razor that I had re-honed myself. It was a real boost to find that my honing was every bit as good as that on my professionally honed new razor. I am finding I like the zen-like process of honing in addition to the shaving ritual itself.

Very cool, I would like to reach that point here as well in regards to the honing. Something I found help me with the positioning and such was some of the guys YouTube videos specifically geofatboy. He has a really good 3 pass video that helped me a lot especially the xtg and atg pass

Keep practicing those three pass shaves guys. You will soon get to the point where you can't wait for that last pass against the grain. I've been doing three passes for most of my shaving life and that third pass is my special "Ahhhhh" moment.

In a way I envy folks that can do 3 passes. My neck just isn't having any of that nonsense, too sensitive lol. I've had to make peace with the fact that 2 passes is the limit, but still get a DFS everytime, so I can be happy with that.
