    As others have said it depends on what your plans are. For maintenance of shave ready razors, a 4k and 8k and a CrOx pasted paddle would be a good start, for very good condition Ebay or antique store razors I would add a 1k to the above, for more worn razors with frowns and small chips I would add a sub 1k diamond hone to the above. Don't worry about finishing hones until you can get a very shave ready edge off the 8k and paddle, the 12k Naniwa super stone would be a good choice for a finisher. Stay away from naturals until you are very comfortable with the synthetic hones.

    Try to find someone local to give you some hands on help, it will make all the difference.

    In the library and a few other spots on the forum is a very old article about what you are asking..

    Personally I doubt many people can answer the question that are asked in the article or that the guys are asking you here without about 6 months experience shaving with a SR first...
