The one pictured is just a standard Dovo with olive wood scales..it still ran me $225..The RR cost me 12 dollars and it's just as comfortable to shave with as the Dovo..and a hell of a lot easier to hone. Although the Dovo requires far less maintenance.

But I think we should drop the notion that one should have to spend absurd amounts on razors just to find out they don't really like it. Buy an inexpensive razor..maintain it...learn the intricacies of the steel..strop it...and enjoy it knowing you've only spent a small amount on it.
I have 3 friends who tried straight razor shaving, and dropped it because of the vary reasons you stated. Why would you promote a razor that needs more maintaining than a traditional straight razor, especially to someone new?

How does a 17.5 inclusive bevel with a 20 degree micro bevel not make any sense? The micro has to be at least 3 degrees steeper in order to make any noticeable difference.

And you have to remember the RR ships with a hollow grind..not a traditional wedge. So unless you turned the entire thing into a Scandinavian grind (no thanks) you really have no choice. 17 degrees is pretty standard on a lot of SR's.

Less expensive blades teach you proper blade maintenance due to a softer edge. It's pretty cool when you get them working.

The RR is crap, and the stuff coming out of your mouth is too, a microbe el on the the 17.5 would be around 14 so get your facts straight, and mods, how long are we going to put up with this guy only coming to stir things up, he doesn't have anything better to do besides antagonize , and apparently support a losing college team Go Bama. Not trying to stir anything up. I just have an opinion is all...this is America btw. And how can a micro bevel be a lesser angle than the inclusive bevel? That doesn't even make any sense But you know what, it's clear to me now..you must be an Alabama graduate..that would explain a lot.

I think you missed my point. The last thing a new guy needs to worry about is honing.

Listen clown I,m not going to argue with you much but a micro bevel is just that a steeper angle than the original angle, so yes I am educated better than an ou man. And you are a liar you are trying to start crap, you came here with that intention and will continue till kicked. I believe you have been here before and can't stay away. Tell your mom to get you another hot pocket and go back to your video games, the men don't have time for you

So in a month when it starts pulling he's gonna spend 50 bucks and two weeks without a razor to send it to get honed professionally? Or buy 30 dollars worth of stones and a simple strop and learn to do it himself? I wouldn't wanna use straights either if I had so send it in every other month. I got into this to save unnecessary costs..not to save time. Of course I'm well beyond that point having spent quite a lot on expensive razors.
