Sigh! We have everything to gain and nothing to lose by telling you the proven truth, goblue!
Do the forum search. Look at the list of razors not recommended, do a search on each!
If you want to save money, go vintage. If you want new, go with quality. This limits you to what we are pushing you toward.
Quality!
You have to try to see. Plain as that.
Our gripe is that when new guys come around saying this is as good as that with no experience to speak of causes problems with other new guys.
Some older ones as well, I suppose!Last edited by sharptonn; 02-29-2016 at 02:21 AM.

Speaking from experience, Dovo, is a good production razor that is not doing due diligence in there QC department. Don't get me wrong,, I have a entry level one that shaves just fine once it was honed properly, just won't go out if my way to get another. As to Grimm, well I,m don't want to start this over again, there are much better and for a lot less money, as I said, I have a 20$ Kinfolks that will shave the dickens out if most razors. It's all about the steel the grind and the guy honing it. I know it's been offered but maybe try out one razor of really good quality and honed properly, then I think you,ll agree, it's not about cost cause unfortunanly there are some razors that are priced beyond their value. Thanked: 237Ok so the 4 year old thread you resurrected was closed down, so you start up a new. First you say dovo cost $600, now your down to $300. Dovo's entry level razor is around $100, and can be found for less used. I have several wade and butcher, boker, clauss, and many other quality branded razors that were all purchased for under $50. A grim razor is junk, and is better suited for movie theatre props than actually using on your face. Yours works, good for you. Many others with the same razor bought junk. The manufacturing process is not done so with the intent of using the blade as a razor to shave with. You would need at least 3 stones to get one shave ready, so implying that a $20 japanese stone is all one needs to get started is ridiculous. Stop, I repeat, stop spreading misinformation. We have plenty of members here who give free razors, free honing, and free advice to those that are seeking the information they need to get started.
How are you measuring your primary and secondary bevels? This doesn't seem to be a logical approach to honing a razor, and will definitely throw beginners off track.
