Default Friday 4th March- First de shave in twenty years!

Hi guys, thought I'd tell you about my shave today (no photos I'm afraid, forgot).
Anyway, haven't shaved with a de razor for twenty years or so, found a Gillette I forgot I had with adjustable blade height, don't know the model, a wilkinson sword badger razor and imperial leather shaving soap stick. After four nicks and loosing what seemed half my blood supply, it was the closest shave I have had for donkeys years. This is all in preparation for shaving with a straight, so I'm taking it one step at a time! Now for a sweet cup of tea to help replace my life blood, lol
    Have a good weekend people.

I think I would set the Gillette adjustable to about #3 for a starting setting. As you go up the scale you get more blade gap/aggression till you hit #9. If #3 works well for you can go up a notch or 2 at a time till you get to where it is too much and back off down a bit.

The other thing is to put the top cap flat on your face with the handle parallel to the floor and slowly lower the handle till you just feel the blade on your skin. That should be a good start point for the right angle on the blade.

    Have fun.

Welcome to the dark side. If you liked the results from a de, you are going to love a straight. Take your time, don't try to rush things, and enjoy the ride.

Watch out for the de Garry .
I got the worst cuts ever from mine when I was young.
    It's the reason I use a straight.
    Take care mate

Don't forget to loosen the doors to release the tension on the blade when you adjust the DE or you could damage it.
