    Default A Memorable Shave ne

I've been shaving with a straight for a year and half now. I usually shave at 4am, before everyone else in the house gets up, and more relevant to this post, before my morning coffee. This morning I didn't follow SOP. It was after 7am and 3 cups of coffee before I got to my shower and shave. Not much out of the ordinary, good lather from some B&M Select, but my 7/8 TI came up in rotation. I prefer a 5/8, but the bigger blade makes for an interesting change. As soon as I put that blade to my sideburn I knew I was in for a different experience. I hope my hands don't shake like that when I'm 75 or 80. What a buzz I had on! The entire shave I felt like I did back when I was a rock climber and on the sharp end of the rope... Extreme concentration needed; I haven't experienced that fear and thrill since my very first straight shave! Not something I want every morning, but definitely a shave to remember. Result was a fine 2 pass shave. Cannot call it DFS as I ended up with one weeper under my chin via the ATG pass.
Anyone else want to share a memorable shave?

I normally shave either right before bed or first thing in the morning, but last Sunday shaved in the middle of the afternoon simply because it was raining and I was bored. It had a different feel similar to what you describe because I wasn't either tired or not awake yet.

I don't know if it's the coffee you had, the time you shaved in or a combination of some elements, but one of the things I LOVE about wet shaving is the delicate attention to tiny details...
I notice it especially when I shave in a place that is not my house... Finding the right place for the strop, not knowing when there are hot water, waking up way too early because it takes me a massive amount of time to shave in a strange place... I think one day I would like to try and shave outdoors.... It looks like an amazing experience :]

I usually shave at night, but usually with quite a bit of caffeine in my system, I'm used to that. On the other hand a pre-coffee, half asleep shave sounds more scary to me..lol!!

I get up and have coffee, post my SOTD pic, talk with BobH and then shave.

I start drinking my morning coffee when I start shave prep.
I'm still trying to figure out how to shave with a coffee in one hand!!

It was definitely the coffee that put me off balance this morning. That 7/8 razor always makes for an interesting shave. I don't use it often enough I suppose. But the combination really led to a memorable morning.
I only use a straight at my own home. When traveling, I bring a DE. Since I travel seldom, the first DE shave is always a little unsettling as well.
