    Default Blade angle when shaving?

Ok so I just purchased a Shumate's barber delux which I posted in recent acquisitions. Now the reason I'm asking this question about blade angle is due to its box.

Now we've all read keep the blade 2+-spine widths off the face we've also heard ymmv because everyone is different an so is every blade an so this may vary, but the shumate box says this

"in order to secure keenest edge possible to produce, Shumate razors are ground extremely thin but they will remain sharp and continue to give a perfect shave if held flat on the face. In shaving hold this razor ABSOLUTELY FLAT ON THE FACE".

So what do you guys think has anyone read this before?

In most instances flat to the face would be more accurate than 2 spine widths.

So then is 2 spine widths just a generalized term?

Yes. It is just a general recommendation and I think the primary intent is to remind the beginner to keep the spine closer to, rather than farther from, the spine. Experimentation will reveal what gives you the best results.

The great thing about a straight is the angle changes depending on the part of the face you are working on. The usual 30 degrees is just a starting point for rookies. After a while it becomes intuitive and I think most aren't conscious about the angle changes as they shave.

I've found most manufacturer recommendations concerning vintage shaving gear of all kinds is way off base.

Read a few instructions that say "virtually flat" or similar:

I think "absolutely flat" works ok for a very thin grind. Also the Shumate instructions specify this to maintain the edge. An angle that scrapes rather than cuts would wear the blade quicker.

I have noticed blade angle changes when shaving it just intrigued me that it said to lay it flat to the face I just don't see that as being completely possible.

Yes it does say that it will maintain the edge if done this way an not that this is the best way to shave that's why I asked everyone their thoughts on this I just seemed odd to me.
