Hit Straight Razor Milestone Today!
Having been a wet shaver for a number of years using vintage Gillette DE's I got some really close clean shaves.
I recently switched to straight razor shaving and have enjoyed the challenge. Today I would say that I hit the level where the WTG and ATG passes reached the same level as the DE's - I was extremely happy with the result. It did take time but it was a massive milestone for me as a new straight razor shaver.
The hints, suggestions, and information on this site where critical to getting great results. Thanks to all of the contributors!“Hiking’s not for everyone. Notice the wilderness is mostly empty.” ― Sonja Yoerg

Good job! How long did it take? I'm still working on it. I'm getting close.

Thanked: 5Congratulations.
Its nice to know there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am only about 10 shaves in with Straights but managed a WTG ATG shave this morning without discomfort. I think it is going to take about 30 more shaves before I begin to see great shaves from a straight.
I am in agreement that getting around the chin area is the most challenging, and is probably going to take the most time to figure out.

Thanked: 39I have found out that if you find and use a "Shorty" razor that spot under the chin is easier to do. I have a Henry Sears & Sons that someone shortened to 2 1/4 inches and it does better under the chin than a full sized 3 incher. I just shortened a Wm. Elliot & Co. to 2 1/4 inches (bad chip at the end of it) and I expect it to do well once I get it sharpened. (ps. its some tough steel!).
