Thanked: 7Feather Artist SS / Shavettes in general
Hi Guys... recently acquired a Feather Artist SS. Pretty new to the concept of replaceable blades so I guess I need some info. Are the Feather Blades supposed to be 1 use only? I gotten a few shaves from a single blade and I'm pretty impressed. After I shave I take out the blade and disassemble the head. I then wash, wipe and dry everything and put it back together. I invert the blade and put it back in, so the blunt end is out. I'm finding this kinda tedious and not too cool with having to handle a razor edge so often vs giving my traditional straights a wipe and closing. Thoughts?

I enjoy the razors, myself. I get about 6to8 shave s per blade. Do a search for "shavetts" use the enter key to limit the search to SRP.

Thanked: 171Here my thoughts:
Feather AC blades are good for about 10 shaves. Replacing blades after only one shave will keep the user getting from optimum results, as AC blades are quite harsh in the beginning and reach their peak IMO after about 2-3 shaves.
After the shave, I rinse the blade holder under running water and wipe it dry similar to a traditional straight razor.
Disassembling the blade holder after each shave is not necessary, and I see no benefit in inserting the blade inverted; on the contrary, you might ruin the edge this way.
You are right, the process you describe is quite tedious and - most of all - not really necessary.
If you want to clean the replaceable blade holder, it will suffice to do this after about 10 shaves once you removed the old blade and before inserting a new one..
My 2 bits....

Yes you are really ver doing the post shave cleaning on it. Also. Agree about turning the blade around, it could possibly damage the edge. What I do t see is how we can guess how many shaves you will get. Your beard is individual to you, plus your technique. I have never gotten more than 2-4 shaves before the blade is ready to change. I don't even try for multiple shaves anymore cause I don't shave with it that often, so I change my blade every shave, blades are cheap and with my beard, a fresh blade works better for me, I never found it getting better by shave 2 or 3. Like. Said everyone is different. Do an experiment on number of uses and see. Tc

I usually get about a week of shaves with mine and find that the second shave is smoother than the first. I see no reason to reverse the blade or disassemble the head. Just rinse it after use and wipe it dry. Have fun.

Thanked: 7I turn the blade around simply because I travel with this razor. I don't have a guard or anything like that. After I shave, it goes into my backpack. I'd rather take the chance of dulling a blade than slicing up my bag or fingers. The edge is kept away from anything inside the assembly and the clamping pressure is enough to hold it in place.
I'm confused as to why everyone is telling me that the dissasembly is not necessary. If you just rinse and wipe, the outside is dry, but the spring mech, hinges, and blade are still wet. My brain is in straight razor mentality where everything should be dry before storing.
Currently, the blade i'm using is up to 4 shaves and still shaves well, I feel that it has one more left. Thanks for your input.

The feather isn't made of carbon steel that will rust if not dried.
I have one of these covers for mine. It comes in handy when carrying the Feather in my Dopp kit.

The cover mentioned above, with some modification, will work for other long blade shavettes if you need to travel or just keep safe while enjoying other fins equipment.
