Default 5 O'clock right after a once over

I've been practicing the once over shave discussed on another thread. I enjoy it as it takes a bit of time off in the mornings.

When I'm done, I can't feel any whiskers except when I rub against the grain on the underneath of the chin. I basically get a very smooth feeling which is perfect for work.

What I'm noticing though is that even with a clean to the touch face, I immediately have the appearance of a shadow where the most dense populations of whiskers are (namely upper lip and chin).

Is this a common thing or am I missing something that I should be doing?

I think it's just how it is - for you.

I mean, for some people the once over will not have such results - simply because they have different hair growth.

    Cheers

I have a similar situation and an easy solution--at least for me.
I do the once over which consists of wtg and xtg strokes as I move throughout the shave. I then relather only the two spots that "shadow" first---my chin and upper lip. I do an additional xtg just on these two areas for added closeness. It doesn't take nearly as much time as a total relather and shaving the entire face.
Might that be a "compromise" for you?
