Thread: What music do you play while shaving???

I never mentioned playback chain in detail yet;

I'm an Audiophile and a Jazz Aficionado, so music is my life, other than shaving of course. I have quite a few vintage high fidelity stereos in many rooms of my homes. I'm into Vinyl (records to the older guys) but I also do FLAC digital music files (lossless) and have hundreds of albums stored digitally. I have receivers and amplifiers and tuners from Marantz, Yamaha, Pioneer, McIntosh, Bose.... the list goes on. I have a Bose Wave Radio in my shave den. This is small enough to fit in the bathroom well, and it's mostly plastic so the moisture won't hurt it much. On this I have a Bluetooth Receiver so I can stream music from my phone to the Wave Radio. iPhone users can get an Airplay receiver to beam music to a stereo system without loss of audio quality. Bluetooth is OK (especially Apt-X Codec Bluetooth) but you do lose some fidelity. iPhones solved this years ago by using WiFi to beam music instead of Bluetooth frequencies. I usually play either music I've got stored on the phone, or i go with a live-stream of something via the internet like a terrestrial Jazz station or something eclectic like monocle.com (mentioned earlier).

I can't imagine spending all the time I do in the shaving den without music. But Carlosppena's comment upon opening this thread rings true. I like to "Hear" my razor (straight or shavette cutting whiskers - not so much DE) as audio feedback is important to me getting the shave done right. So I don't crank my shave den music at warp factor 9. Just loud enough to enjoy it and still be able to get audio feedback on the razor cutting wiskers.

Seriously, Back to Razorfeld's post. I was in a big habit of listening to the local classical station.
They shut it down. These days, I mostly go to the satellite TV and pick from most any genre. Classical seems best for straight shaving.

My wife knows I'm shaving when she hears AC/DC coming from my shave den, at level warp factor 9, then it's time to leave me alone, but I sometimes listen to something soft like, the Eagles , Bruce Springsteen, or Grand Funk Railroad, being in Memphis you would think I would lean to the blues, but I,m a classic rock kinda guy, now the wife she's all about jazz and the blues, she even used to be a singer in a band that played n Beale street years ago. As of late, it's been billy joel, bowling for soup, or halestorm... To ZipZop, wish my gear was a bit closer to yours, being at school for audio engineering and having to use onboard phone speakers is pretty close to vomit inducing haha

I'm a serious audiophile and am always on the lookout for a great deal on high fidelity audio gear. Henry Kloss designed an amazing table radio about the same time that Amar Bose designed his Wave Radio, and IMO, the Kloss beats it hands down with audio purity and natural bass. The sub woofer wave guide output is independently adjustable to your personal taste.

It's the Kloss Model 88. Cambridge Audio made this model in the 90s. They can be had on eBay once in a while for around $100, and that's a steal. They come with remote, and two inputs for CD or Bluetooth receiver or Airplay. I just grabbed this one off of eBay and it is replacing my Bose Wave Radio in my shaving den.

The shelf is one of those "Magic Shelves" on Amazon for around $20. It has a hidden steel bar device that bolts to the wall and fits inside the shelf. Holds about 15 lbs no problem. So my Wave Radio is now in SWMBO's Master Bath, and my shave den has been UPGRADED to a Kloss Model 88. Yahoo! Sounds amazing. Haven't hidden the wiring yet. Just could not wait to try it out.

Beach Boys for me. Almost exclusively.
Something about it just puts my mood right to a time when things were simpler and the only thing on one's mind was cars, girls, and waves.
Not that I was around back when the Beach Boys were making records, and I don't live anywhere that I could surf. But that's kind of the point of music, no? or at least one of them...

Magnifique mon ami!

A rather eclectic and rare Miles that most do not even know exists. I am a mega Jazz Aficionado and have a huge Miles collection. I do not have this on on Vinyl, only on FLAC digital.

If you want a really beautiful Jazz trumpet sound that combines elements of Miles, Lee Morgan, Clark Terry and even a bit of Armstrong, try Harry Sweets Edison. Probably a good album to start with is "Sweets";
