Unless I was planning on opening a straight razor museum, I would use the razor the way it was intended.

Unlike vintage wines and rare malts, using a straight razor does not bring it noticeable closer to its end.

I never let the scales get hot.

Unless you plan on selling it latter for a profit I would use it. I've had several razors and bought and cleaned honed and shaved with then sold to do the same over again. I have some I received from friends that are keepers and I shave with them. These razors have a special meaning for me and I enjoy using them. Other than that I would say use it and enjoy.

When I purchased the razor below, I was told it was a museum piece and I should only admire it, never shave with it. I asked, why own it if I can't enjoy it? It is part of my regular 35 razor rotation.

So, Wayne1963, have you used it yet or are you still admiring it?

The thing that makes that razor special are the scales. The blade is relatively common and could be replaced.

I'm not a huge fan of those scales' aesthetics, but they are definitely very special and quite rare.

They're based on embellishments used on Eskilstuna pen knives, by the way, but you may have already known that.
