I recently tried to apply the .1 micron paste to the newspaper but I found it extremely difficult to not over-apply the paste. I guess I was used to applying it to the leather strop wich likes to absorb the paste. I ended up overpasting the newspaper twice and decided to go with just the newspaper and the extra strokes.
