I used a low lather soap which had moisturizers and clay in it for slippage so I was able to see the whiskers more easily through the lather.

I've wondered sometimes about how thick lather might actually inhibit that closest 'finishing' shave. Besides your example, consider also the common practice of a cold water last pass to 'clean up'. I wouldn't advocate a latherless shave, but sometimes less may be more. It makes sense that a thinner lather might help you see and get closer.

Also, as you move through this single pass, do you have a long continuous stroke over each area or multiple, short, stroke-re-strokes, or somewhere in between?

This is also key to take off the final lingerings of the soap on the skin and the dead skin cells that follow. I notice while I am doing this the dirty and whatnot on the razor afterwards. Makes me feel happy I am "So fresh 'n so Clean" (OutKast).
