Thanked: 0Anyone using the Shapton Glass
Sharpening Stone 16000 Grit for a finishing stone? I’ve been using an Arkansas surgical stone. I’m not likening my shaves and thought I might switch to something else

Yes, I have. What is it that you don't like about the Arkansas (I'm guessing surgical black?)?
The SG 16K produces a very sharp, crisp edge and it takes very few strokes to get there.

I use both SG and Ark. Love them. What's the trouble with your Ark.?
A little advice: Don't impede an 80,000 lbs. 18 wheeler tanker carrying hazardous chemicals.

I use Shapton Glass 4k, 8k and 16k all the time.
Used together they produce a mirror polished bevel and are very fast.
You have to be a little careful with the 16k on razors with very thin blades that are hollow ground. It has a tendency to make the edge so thin that it won't hold up very long before starting to deteriorate. Some do better than others. Depends on the steel.
On blades heavier than hollow ground I've had nothing but complete success and stellar edges.

Thanked: 4I use my shapton glass 16k followed by a Ken Schwartz .5 micron CN slurry on nano-fiber to refresh my razors. Makes bringing back a beautiful edge super easy. I find the shapton glass to be really easy to work with, and very consistent.
