Default What do you do when you cut yourself?

Dumb question but I’m sure some of your guys have been there. This morning I have several nicks on my face and one pretty bad cut. My questions are: 1) do you wait a week or so before shaving again? 2) do you switch to an electric razor for a while? 3) or should I just give it up and stick a SR when my face clears up. I’m 83 and know that could be a problem but i love the all the aspects of shaving with a SR. it’s my hobby like most of you and i have all the tools to do my thing. Help me with this dumb question if you can.

If I get a nick, the old piece of toilet paper to stop the bleeding, and then Lynn Abrams mentioned a great trick, and it works well for me.

I actually gave myself a nice slice, first time in years a couple of weeks ago...styptic pencil is of course a good tool, I find it doesn't work that well though, stings, but doesn't necessarily stop the bleeding like s corner of toilet paper.

When the bleeding stops, I do what Lynn suggested and put a dab of Polysporin on the cut, keeps it clean, and it heals very quickly, and more importantly, very cleanly...no scars or blemishes.

If it's a bad cut I will wait a couple of days before shaving. Then, when I do shave, I will shave that sport perpendicular to the cut so the edge doesn't hang up.

I tend to bleed when I cut myself.
As to shaving it depends on how bad the cut is

I use the methods mentioned above to stop the bleeding, then I still shave the next day as normal.

I am always careful around the area, as Leatherstockiings has suggested I shave at right angles to the cut or in a direction that will close the cut rather than open it again. I use so little pressure in that are that I am almost holding the blade off my face. I never use a DE, I find that when I do it seems to make it worse. I really can't get on with electrics either.

I hope your face heals pretty quickly, but I would just carry on and take extra care in the affected areas.

    Good luck.

It's been a long time since I got a serious cut. Tiny nicks I just keep reapplying shave cream to the area and the bleeding usually stops. For anything serious I'd skip over the area for a few days.

I have this cut prep made by Jack Black which contains silver compounds. It works like polysporin.

Depending on the cut, I carry on, use a septic pencil, or piece of TP. Am careful around the area for a few days (depending on the severity of the cut) and basically do what others mentioned. Oh yeah, I also cuss!

No scar? Where's the fun in that?

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.

I've only had one real bad cut in my life when I sneezed mid-stroke. IIRC it happened back in 1976. That cut, on my chin, required a gauze pad and tape. I shaved around it for a week or so until the scab fell off. Like Spendur, on small nicks I grab the brush and plaster on some soap then shave right over them. My friend, at 83 and shaving with a straight, you deserve an award.........so here's a big thumbs up for you.
