    Default Weird neck problem

I am encountering a pesky problem when shaving my chin and my neck. I get a nice shave on my cheeks and the sides of my neck, but once I get to the center of my neck and my chin the razor just seems to glide over the stubble no matter which direction I shave.

    Really irritating.

The neck is a problem for many people partly because often times the beard seems to grow from all directions. I have the same problem. The only way I can get BBS on my neck is by going with a side motion W-E which I simply can't do with a western straight. I can with a japanese razor with the shorter blade. I've tried all kinds of crazy angles. In the end I'm still getting a great shave just not BBS against the grain. It used to bother me but doesn't anymore.

I've often thought wouldn't it be nice to have a str8 that the blade was only 2" long or so. This would really help to get at those troublesome areas around the Adams Apple. I would actually prefer a razor of that length. I wonder why a manufacturer never came up with that? - or has one?

    Regards,

    Steve

Are you using the proper blade angle? If you are too
shallow your razor may glide or pull the hairs a bit
    without removing any stubble.

There are a few out there like the Double Duck Dwarf which has a blade a bit shorter however if you really want short you have to go with a traditional japanese razor. Come join the club, it will test your mettle.

I have a similar issue too - my beard actually grows in a spiral pattern on either side of my adam's apple. The only thing I've come up with so far is to use shorter, quicker strokes in that area, while adjusting the blade angle. Some creative stretching helps too.

On my neck , I do a WTG pass first , then I do an ATG . That usually takes care of it , if not , I do another WTG . I also increase the blade angle slightly as needed , but only slighty . Too steep of a blade angle is a good way to get cut (I don't mean nicked , I mean CUT )

I have heard of guys using their shorty blades after knocking the toe off of their daily shavers (by dropping them). I am sure that you could make that happen on purpose, too.

That's exactly what I have too. Around my adam's apple, the beard grows in the most crazy directions - it looks like a spiral. With my kind of beard on that area, there's no WTG, XTG or ATG! It's crazy! I shave slow and carefull, but I always get razor burns and red areas around adam's apple!
    What can I do?

Yeah, it's tricky alright. I have to resist the temptation to use more pressure in that area - guaranteed razor burn if I do. Along with shorter strokes, I occasionally, and very carefully, introduce a slight lateral movement in my stroke - like cutting a loaf of bread, but only using the "toward me" movement if you know what I mean. Seems to help a bit. But I'm never entirely BBS in that area- getting close but I'm still working on it.
