Default Rem Oil for Rust Prevention?

    New member here.

I've been using Remington Oil ("Rem Oil") to wipe down my blade after use and drying. I wipe it off again with a gun cleaning patch, strop, and then shave. I haven't had any ski irritation and I've been shaving with this straight razor for a month.

Is this safe? What do you guys think?

Its probably OK. I don't oil my blades, but if I do I use a touch of baby oil. ( mineral oil )

I often use Rem Oil or WD40, especially if they are not going to be used in the near future. I just try to make sure the blade is clean before I strop or shave with it. Mineral oil as Mike mentioned is definitely a good option. It isn't toxic and you can buy a bottle of it much cheaper than other oils.
I'm actually thinking of getting some ZeRust Plastabs to put in the box/roll with the razors.

Baby oil! That probably would be a cheaper and better bet.

Next time I am out I will look for a small bottle. Thanks guys.

Baby oil for me too. Works great and cheaper than any thing else. Buy a big bottle.
A little advice: Don't impede an 80,000 lbs. 18 wheeler tanker carrying hazardous chemicals.

Thanks guys! I was food shopping for my parents tonight and remembered to buy mineral oil. I got a big bottle although I need a small bottle for travel. I plan to go to Indonesia soon and I'm taking the straight (albeit in cargo ).

I'll try and shave the day after tomorrow and try the stuff out.
