Thanked: 7Just now shaved and made up for all the mistakes the other night. In fact, I got the chin area really well and did the right neck just right as it is smooth against the grain. Dropped that ball on the left neck but overall, a very good shave and I am getting better against grain.

Thanked: 292Most of us strop either before or after the shave. Some of us strop both before and after. But there is no rule that says you cannot strop between passes, or even in the middle of a pass if the edge is not what you desire.
I have even pulled out my finishing hone to refresh an edge in the middle of a shave, making a few passes on the stone and then restropping the razor if that is what is needed to get a good shave. I keep a finishing hone in the shave den for that specific purpose. I have a tough beard and sensitive skin, so I won't tolerate an edge that is not up to the task.

Thanked: 104Never forgot to strop, but did have the cat jump up on the sink in the middle of shaving. Could have been a disaster but was really just a minor nick.

I haven’t forgot to strop, per se, but I have purposely went without stropping to see what would happen. Nothing. I got a great shave without stropping too. That is not to say that stropping isn’t needed. It most definitely is. It just goes to show that I don’t HAVE to strop every time. Recently I went to a hotel and purposely left my strop behind. With two razors I was good to go for four days. I stropped when I got home and they are as good as new. Someday I will see how long I can go without stropping. If you do a four pass shave and then strop could I not do 4 one pass shaves and then strop ? I love to hone so the worst case scenario is that I would have to touch up my razor. Well, bust my britches and call me shorty.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Thanked: 0Made the mistake of passing my razor behind me and grabbing it with the other hand, as the missus was brushing her teeth in front of me and I didn't want to scare her.
Misjudged the pass and felt the edge whisper into the tip of my index finger - luckily the nail stopped it from going farther. Didn't even hurt, but bled like mad...

Thanked: 0She decided she'd rather be elsewhere when I'm shaving...

Can't say I've forgotten to strop... but rushing, I have cut through my strop. I'd rather forget.
