I feel like a slacker...
And maybe i should ask for forgiveness from the group.
Working at night, most of the places i deliver to are closed so i see very few people while working. Plus ive come to the conclusion that if i shave every other day, after whiskers are longer and softer, less prickly, i get better shaves. Ive always shaved daily unless its my weekend but this new way just seems to work well for my shaves.
So call me a slacker if you want. And forgive me for seeming to be lazy but im just not going to shave every day for a while. Unless SWMBO wants to go out or something of that nature.
Please dont revoke my membership to SRP. Ha.Last edited by Gasman; 06-10-2018 at 10:26 PM.

Thanked: 556I’m in a similar situation and sometimes only shave every 3 days. Maybe it’s the contrast, but that shave seems so much closer and lasts so much longer than when I shave daily. Plus, I feel like I can take extra time with the shaving ritual.
Makes it seem more like a luxurious hobby than a daily chore.David

Not all of us have whiskers that grow 1/2 inch a day and act like they are made out of titanium!
If you would kike to shave every day you could shave in the morning. Which would be the average persons night. Many do that
I have not kept a scientific log but for myself I have found that for a close shave I should either shave every day, every 3rd day, or 7 days or more.
The only reason between the 3 and 7 day plus shave is because my beard itches on day 4 and/or 5!

Hey my friend,
It's funny you posted this as I was just doing some figuring and was going to post something similar.
When I first started shaving with my uncle's 9/16 Genco Grant straight razor (Pro Honed) back in 2010 I was determined to learn this age old art. I was working 5 days a week and the personal hygiene and dress standards were very strict as I worked with the public in a chain grocery store (Safeway).
In three years time I shaved with a straight razor Every Day with the exception of the three days my son and I went tent camping and I wasn't going to try shaving in the outside rear view mirrors on my truck. (I did shave first thing when we got home/even before unpacking)
Since I retired I shave when I damn well please. It might be every other day, it might be every day. I just shaved off a 5 day growth because it was bothering me. I will need to shave again in 5-6 days as my nephew will be getting married and I'll be in attendance and the nephew thinks it's cool that Uncle Roy uses a straight razor.
With all this said, I still love the feel of a nicely honed, stropped razor gliding through the beard.
By the way, I really don't know if the whiskers actually 'soften' as they grow. If anything I think that longer length allows the hairs to absorb more water/lather and that makes cutting it easier.
My thinking is that if you put a 1/16" brass rod in a vice with only 1/4 inch sticking out and try to bend it with your finger it's not going far. However if you extend that same rod out to 1" then it's much easier. Pretty much the same with whiskers, as they get longer they 'seem' softer as they are easier to move; Just my thought

Thanked: 38Before I took up the straight razor, I was in a very minimalist shaving state of mind. Disliked it, disliked the beard more, so I shaved twice a week at most. When I saw the light, I tried shaving every day. I could keep that up for maybe three weeks before it became a chore again. Every other day is perfect; I look forward to every shave... every other day...

Another night shift guy here.
I shave every day at the front of the work week and then skip the last day of the work week. I usually shave once sometime during the weekend.
I don't know if I'm a slacker, but I do know when I might have to be around customers and what keeps SWMBO from offering critical opinion on the subject.

I have my 24 hour shaves, my 36 hour, and 48 hour shaves. That's how I break it down. My best shaves are the 36, and 48 hour. My 24 hour shaves are fine, but sometimes prone to irritation. When I can I still shave every day.
A little advice: Don't impede an 80,000 lbs. 18 wheeler tanker carrying hazardous chemicals.

Thanked: 81I have very sensitive skin, and no matter how great a shave is, if I shave 24 hours or less later I'm guaranteed irritation. On average I shave every 2 days, although in reality it's anywhere between 36 and 72 hours.
