I don't know if anyone else has noticed the strange hipster draw to straight shaving. They all have a full beard with a fascination of straight shaving. I don't get it. And what is with the shave companies using guys with full beards to advertise their products? Simpsons posted a few pics of their stall at a trade show. A guy with a full beard was holding a Simpsons brush. Why am I supposed to take advice from a guy who clearly doesn't use the product? LOL

Until a couple weeks ago, I had a full beard. I used a SR to shave my neck and the top of my cheeks. I love old tools, so a SR just makes sense. I'll most likely go back to a beard by the Fall. Just saying ... grin.

I understand people use straight razors to keep their beards in line but I still just can't take someone with a beard trying to sell me shaving gear seriously.

I sometimes get a barber "straight" shave from a barber I really like who does a lot of shaves, and has some skills. Yeah, it's never as BBS as when I fuss over it myself. But I'm not made of stone, I like the experience overall of being shaved. The whole ceremony aspect of the lather, hot towel, lather, shave, face massage, aftershave, scalp massage, the whole thing.

Makes me feel like a gangster.

REALLY? Is that a thing? Is THIS why vintage SR prices have been skyrocketing? Do...they shave with it? Or is it just a "oooh fancy" and display thing?

Some barber I visited once told me that there was ONE place in GTA that used to give cut-throat shaves till quite recently - decades(?) ago...but they've since closed down. I don't remember when but a while back there were new laws put into place that requires some crazy expensive machinery for sanitizing cut-throats, so basically everyone switched to shavettes. Which is better than most other places where cut-throats are straight up banned for barber use (places like India where barber shaves are extremely common, def. use shavettes. My first shaves were in fact barber shaves with a shavette...but I digress). I really wish I could have that experience of a cut-throat barber shave, that would be awesome!

The funny thing is, I used to LOVE barber shaves, they were so much better than what I could do, even if they left me feeling razor burned sometimes (My skin no likey them feathers). Until I started shaving myself, now I just find the shave itself to be inadequate...but still do it at times for the whole experience (I REALLY need to buy one of those towel warmer machines).

They DO? Man, I wish my convos led that way...I'm like one of those parents who won't shut up about their kids, and attempts to lead every conversation that way...except instead of kids it's straight razors.

Are you sure he didn't miss a decimal point there? You DO mean 1.4 passes right. Cuz 14 is just, wtaf.

I never had any interest in getting a barber shave. Someone here once said that it would be like seeing the dentist every time you needed to brush your teeth. That made sense to me.

Why wouldn't they shave with it ? Can't think of a better tool for shaping a beard
