Thanked: 104My son is still afraid of the straight, but he has let me clean him up a bit. He uses an old Gillette DE. (Those things scare me!)

Thanked: 113That's fantastic, congrats, great idea for a graduation present.
My boys are way too young, but they keep asking me to teach them wet shaving.

Many years ago, I picked up one of these to give to my then 5 year old grandson.

It was dull as a butter knife.
Here he is doing his first shave. Yes I lathered up to show him how to hold the blade--well kind of

That's cool. I wish someone had taught me to shave. With any razor. Had to figure it out by myself.
I admit to being envious when I read about dads or grandads handing down their razor and passing on their shaving skills.

Yeah, I was hoping for that whole, both of us with shave cream on our faces, looking in the mirror, some instruction, some joking around...nothing. He handed me his old twist to open Gillette and walked away.
Tried and failed to get my son in law enthused about DE shaving. He looked at me like I was crazy when I told him I was switching to a straight razor.

I taught my son how to shave with a straight when he was 17. The little Beastard could use both hands right out of the gate. (My non dominate hand is pretty much just a balancing point. I hate to use it to even turn wrenches or such)
Nine years later he sports his so called 'Beard' I've told him multiple times that I could grow a better beard when I was in High School and that if he couldn't grow a better beard to just shave the SOB off. Those words of wisdom/advice pretty much fall on deaf ears.
Every once in awhile he'll show up and want to shave his beard off and strops up his razor and off it goes.
The 'You're Crazy' look, well that comes up quite a bit. However every once in a while it's quite the opposite.
I have a friend who was making some very nice custom brushes and he was at the post office with a bunch of boxes to mail out. There was a very attractive woman behind him in the line and she commented on all the boxes and being the same size. He told her that he made custom shaving brushes for guys who used straight razors and other forms of wet shaving.
To this she asked if he used straight razors and he said he indeed did. She exclaimed "That's the sexiest thing I've ever heard" and she dug into her purse and handed him her business card and asked him to call her.
He thanked her but told her that he was very happily married and she said something like--'Keep my card and if things change, give me a call'.
After he'd mailed his packages and was in his rig, he looked at the card----------she was a Superior Court Judge. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

I have no son but 6 nephews. One of them learned to shave with a straight I gave him and ... he had an activity of barber on his college friends during his study times.
For the others, They were not (yet) interrested but I gave 2 of them a DE, a Yaqi brush and a good shaving cream to discover the traditionnal wet shaving world.Greetings
